Where to Woo the One You Love

Are Valentine’s Day dinner plans looking a bit déjà vu year after year? Whisk your lover away to one of these romantically titled locations any time of the year, and let them know how you really feel. Everyone’s a winner!

  • 1. Romance Mountain

    Goshen, Vermont, USA
Romance Mountain is nestled in the heart of America’s Green Mountain National Forest. A scenic 2-hour drive south of Vermont, this romantic road trip is for all seasons. Lush green tree canopies in spring and summer are transformed into vibrant red and orange leaves during New Hampshire's fall. Winter brings snow, and plenty of it, for skiing, snow-shoeing or snuggling up in front of an open fire in one of Vermont’s traditional inns.
  • 2. Kissing

    Bavaria, Germany
Couples who argue over reading a map may want to whip out a sat nav on this trip. About an hour’s drive west of Munich, Kissing is close to Stadtwald Augsburg, a city forest. Romantic walks through the woods, kissing and holding hands await you — if you read the map correctly. Best not to mistake it for Bad Kissingen, located some 300 km to the north. Though a perfectly pleasant place to spend time, the bad omens conjured up may put you off your tonsil tennis game.
  • 3. Romance

    Arkansas, USA
Local legend suggests this Arkansas town was named by a teacher who thought views from the east were decidedly romantic. Years on, Romance is living up to its name, while helping a local business flourish. Thousands of lovestruck correspondence fans head to the post office every year to get a Romance postmark. Everything from Valentine’s cards to wedding invitations are mailed from the office, where even the occasional nuptials take place.
  • 4. Parque del Amor

    Miraflores, Lima, Peru
Dotted amongst Lima’s various districts, you’ll find plenty of lush green spaces. Known as Peru’s "Garden City," perhaps the most romantic garden is within the six mile stretch of parks that look out over the ocean. Parque del Amor (Love Park) is home to Víctor Delfín’s "The Kiss" — a massive sculpture depicting the artist and his wife kissing. Stroll through the beautiful park heading north and you’ll see parasailers gliding off the cliffs. Adrenline junkies in love can book a flight with one of the trained guides and soar over the Pacific waves below.
  • 5. Valentine

    New South Wales, Australia
This suburb in New South Wales has a remarkably unromantic past — coal mining. To make the town’s past a touch more tedious, the area is named after local accountant, Valentine Geary. Our advice? Skip the history lesson and plan a road trip north of Sydney to the famous Gold Coast, stopping off in Valentine along the way. Perched on the edge of Lake Macquarie, Valentine is home to many activities. Adventurous types can bushwalk in the nearby mountains or, for something a little more relaxing, kayak or take a lake cruise. Just don't forget the all-important long romantic walk along the edge of the lake.
  • 6. Tunnel of Love

    Klevan, Ukraine
Spring brings romance to the Ukrainian town of Klevan, in the form of … a railway line. No, not what we were expecting either, but love does blossom in the most unusual of places at times. Love is on the line for couples who stroll down the leafy tracks of this 3 km stretch of private rail — just so long as they watch out for the freight trains. Lover’s wishes are said to come true here, as long as they are "sincere in love." If nothing else, the stunning backdrop coupled with a selfie stick is an Instagram match made in heaven.
  • 7. Diamond Rock Road

Islas de la Bahía, Roatán, Honduras
Diamond Rock Road snakes along the northern edge of Roatán, a Honduran island. Take a trip along this picturesque route through the trees to Paya Bay, home to a section of the world’s second largest barrier reef. Snorkel, swim or admire the clear blue Caribbean waters. Just don’t forget that diamonds are a girl’s best friend if you’re planning to propose.
